In the twenty-first century, one of the most popular types of games that people play across multiple platforms and devices is the board game. Board games have been around for thousands of years and they date back to the earliest types of printed materials. One of the earliest board games that has come from the age of antiquity is called the Thousand and One Linden which is a game of chance played on a grid of seven rows and three columns that represent the seven planets. The point system used was based on the idea of a game of chance where an individual would place the playing cards onto their board and if they so chose, could remove cards to make their column’s place at the top of the seven grid completely free. This was not however a true game of chance, as the person had to match the number of cards up against the places on the playing cards to be able to remove them and thus gain a benefit.

The ancient Chinese would take many different versions of the ancient Chinese game of Chien it and use it as a social game where they would sit together and rotate the cards and place them onto the board in strategic positions to create patterns and shapes. This was a game that required much coordination as well as decision making skills. This game evolved into Chinese crossword puzzles and word searches. These were later translated by some of the greatest minds in the English language into English and were then taken to the American world, where they began to become extremely popular. The Sudoku games have gone through many different changes over the years, some more dynamic than others, but each has a very distinct feel and has become a favorite among millions.

Another great game that has been around for quite some time is Scrabble. This game is a standard board game that is played on a rectangular table with forty-five different playing pieces each with a value ranging from one to four. The point values are based off of a set number of points, which are pre-determined when you buy the game. This makes Scrabble a popular game for both kids and adults alike.

For a game that has taken on many different forms throughout the years, nothing has ever risen to the top as far as popularity as solitaire. While this is a game that can be played by people of all ages, it is perhaps best suited for the elderly. This is because while playing the game, a person must simply remove all of their cards and then replace them with a single card, which may only have one letter of the new position occupied by the current player.

There are many other classic games that have been around for generations, and it is not uncommon to find children who are familiar with many of these games even today. However, the ones listed above are some of the most popular. As with anything, these games have changed a great deal over the years and no longer include the simple sets of playing pieces that were available years ago. The newest versions are much more detailed and offer a variety of playing options to fit the level of expertise of the gamers.
